Laparoscopic Surgery
As part of our commitment to exceptional patient care, we are pleased to be the first clinic in the Wellington region to offer laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery to pets. Non-clients are welcome to contact us directly to organise these surgeries. Currently we offer the following procedures:
LAPAROSCOPIC OVARECTOMY (LOVE) SPAY
A laparoscopic spey is a modern, minimally invasive surgery to sterilize female pets by removing only the ovaries through tiny keyhole incisions. It causes up to 65% less postoperative pain and allows for a much faster recovery than a traditional open spay.
LAPAROSCOPIC ASSISTED GASTROPEXY
We also offer laparoscopic-assisted gastropexy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to permanently attach a dog’s stomach to the body wall. It is primarily performed to prevent Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV)—also known as bloat or twisted stomach—in deep-chested, high-risk breeds like Great Danes, German Shepherds, and Standard Poodles. A laparoscopic gastropexy will often be times at the same time as a LOVE spey in a female dog.
LAPAROSCOPIC LIVER BIOPSIES
A laparoscopic liver biopsy in dogs is a minimally invasive “keyhole” surgery used to diagnose liver diseases. It involves general anesthesia, tiny skin cuts, a small camera (laparoscope), and specialized biopsy forceps. Vets prefer this method because it lets them see the liver directly and take good tissue samples from multiple lobes with less pain and a faster recovery than open surgery
